FAA Clears Virgin Galactic Spaceplane for Powered Test Flights

The FAA recently granted an experimental permit to Virgin Galactic in order to conduct rocket powered flight tests of their spaceplane design, SpaceShip2 (SS2). Virgin Galactic expects to begin these flights later this year. While most popularly known as a space “tourist” (or more appropriately, ‘spaceflight participant’) vehicle, SS2 is also intended to fly microgravity flight experiments.
